Okazaki Castle is a historic castle in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. It is famously known as the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu (originally Matsudaira Takechiyo), who later founded the Edo Shogunate (1603–1868). Strategically located in the Mikawa region (eastern Aichi Prefecture), Okazaki Castle played a pivotal role during Japan’s Warring States period (Sengoku period) and throughout the Edo period.

- Originally known as Ryūjō (“Dragon Castle”), it is believed to have been built in the 15th century.
- During Ieyasu’s rule, the castle was expanded and fortified. In the Edo period, it served as the seat of hereditary vassals (fudai daimyō) of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
- Many original structures were lost due to the Meiji government’s haijōrei (castle demolition order) in the late 19th century. The current reconstructed keep (main tower) dates to 1959 and is made of reinforced concrete.
